Peaked and tuned at a decent shop.Ī SINGLE 18' foot coax. That involves ripping apart half the interior, and you'll never get it right again. You don't have to route the coax "factory". I think they got tired of hearing it doink against the headache rack because they were all flatbedders.but Low Pro was a style for a while. Sorry about the retarded CAPS, but it's late and I havet slept because of a news article I read.so.sorry.Ī good radio, with decent coax, well grounded, and one antenna is more than enough.ĬB nerds will actually tell you that a dual antenna setup actually QUADRUPLES your SWR's and makes tuning that much harder.įor a while it was a fad that guys with flat top 379's, and mid roof KW 900's (and flat top Freightliners and other, lesser trucks) would run a single Wilson in the middle of the back of the cab on the grab bar with the tip just above the top of the cab. The best setup is SINGLE coax, ONE antenna. If youre running a dual co-ax setup, and only running one antenna, you're screwing up, and eventually burning up your radio. They sell the vise-grip things already made but I just bought a cheap Chinese vise-grips & made my own. I could dig it out & hook it up real quick. I never had a radio box but I carried a plastic Craftsman tub/tool box thing with wheels & a handle, and I kept a CB in there just in case I ran into heavy snow or something. There was a thing called a "bird perch" on the Volvo's made specifically for clamping the Vise-Grip things to but on the Sterlings & other trucks they'd clamp to the mirror bracket. The trucks had power posts on the dash so you can put alligator clips on them. The box would contain a CB and a single speaker, with a cord wrap on the back for the antenna wire & power cord. Just a plywood or aluminum/stainless boxes, usually with wheels from a push-lawnmower and a handle so it's like a dolly. When I drove for Roadway the trucks didn't have CB antennas on them so drivers would carry radio boxes with them.
